Though my original intended dedication for this song was to my brothers, the song became as much about the plight of our family in the years following the divorce of my parents as it is homage to Brent and David. I penned the music for this song in the spring of 1984. It was my full intention then to make the song a tribute to my brothers but lyrics eluded me for more than a decade. In late January 1998 following Brent’s annual birthday dinner, I found the inspiration that had eluded me for fourteen years. Its inspiration was two fold. As children, I fondly remember my brothers as blond ponies running carefree and happy despite the obstacles we overcame and despite having to contend with me as a typical older brother. As adults, we discovered one of our favorite wines carries the same name: Cheval Blanc (horse white). Jon Charles Fortman
